Moz-Agri is achieving almost three tons of beans per hectare

The beans are grown under pivot irrigation. Initially, there were only a number of dry land plantings, but today Moz-Agri boasts 3 pivots (5ha, 23ha, and 30ha). The fourth pivot of 16ha is being installed this year and 40ha of land is being prepared for an additional pivot to be installed in 2017. On average, Moz-Agri is achieving almost three tons of beans per hectare and hopes to eventually increase its land under pivot to 150ha.

The team also hopes to establish a bean processing and packaging plant, to provide branded products to households.

About MozAgri

In November 2009, Chris and Filipa Serfontein arrived at Chuala Farm. Situated 120km from Chimoio, Mozambique, the farm had no electricity, no running water and no agriculture besides subsistence gardening – and for the first nine months, the couple lived very simply in tents, working alongside the local people to lay the foundations for Moz-Agri Lda.
